National Non-Traditional Students Week

Join CGS in celebrating non-traditional students! We invite you to join us one last time today until 12:30 p.m. CGS Student Government and staff members will have a table outside of the CGS office in Posvar Hall.

Come visit to learn more about non-traditional students and the opportunities and services available to them at Pitt. Free coffee and snacks will be provided!

CGS December Graduation Reception and Recognition Ceremony
Students who graduated in August with a Bachelor’s degree, and students who have applied for December graduation are invited to the CGS December Graduation Reception and Recognition Ceremony event on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the O’Hara Student Center.
 
RSVPs are required for this event. Eligible students were sent an invitation via email which contains information on how to RSVP. Questions? Please contact Jillian Rodgers at jar124@pitt.edu.

Saturday, November 12: Spring Term open enrollment begins.
Wednesday, November 23 - Sunday, November 27: Thanksgiving Recess for all students (no classes), all schools.
Thursday, November 24 - Friday, November 25: Thanksgiving Recess for faculty and staff (University closed).
Monday, November 28: Classes resume (all schools).
Friday, December 9: Fall Term: Last day for undergraduate day classes.
Friday, December 9: Spring Term deadline for continuing students to register.

Academic Resource Center Workshops
The Academic Resource Center is hosting a series of workshops to help students develop better skills and strategies for studying. Some upcoming workshops include:
 
Overcoming Test Anxiety
Wednesday, November 16 at 6 p.m.
Overcoming Test Anxiety is put on by the University Counseling Center and is designed to help participants discover ways to work through their anxiety when they are taking a test.

 
Finals Boot Camp
Tuesday, December 6 at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, December 7 at 5 p.m.
Thursday, December 8 at 4 p.m.
 A broad scope workshop that is designed to give you the basic skills and tips to help you succeed during finals week. This workshop covers ways to stay on top of finals, including time management, study skills, and ways to minimize stress during finals.

All workshops take place at the Academic Resource Center, located in room G-1 of the Gardner Steel Conference Center. For more upcoming workshops and dates, click here.
Peer Science Tutoring
Do you want to review the complex formulas in your biology and chemistry classes? Are you looking for clarification on your economics assignments? Peer tutoring can help resolve your questions and feel more confident with your understanding of the materials.

Tutoring appointments are available Monday–Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m at the Gardner Steel Conference Center, next to Thackeray Hall. Please call 412-648-7920 or stop by the front desk to schedule an appointment.

McCarl Center News

Writing and Math Help Available for All CGS Students
The McCarl Center offers CGS students one-on-one consultations and tutoring to help with your math and writing assignments.

Writing tutors Libby Ferda and April Flynn will each be available 5 hours a week to assist students. All in-person appointments will take place in the McCarl Center, 1400 Posvar Hall. Visit them for one-on-one support for developing ideas, outlining, drafting, organizing, sharpening grammar, revising, and more. Make your appointment by calling (412)624-6556 or by going to pitt.mywconline.com (select CGS schedule before you log in).
Writing Center Fall Hours
Tuesdays: 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Wednesdays: 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Katie Smith, a graduate student and our temporary math tutor for this fall, can also be reached at the McCarl Center.
