Christians, Muslims and Hindus from Berlin visited London last week as part of a new project launched by the European Council of Religious Leaders. The visit to London follows a meeting at Berlin Town Hall last October.  The Christian Muslim Forum co-hosted a reception at which Revd Dr Thomas Wipf, Feride Funda G-Gençaslan, Dr Thomas Schimmel, Pasha Shah, Elizabeth Harris-Sawczenko and CMF Co-Chair Bishop Paul Hendricks spoke.

With the support of the Near Neighbours programme, our church-mosque twinning programme is extending to Greater Manchester and the Wolverhampton area.  Wherever you are, if you’d like to get involved, please contact CMF.

With the help of a Connexional grant, CMF visited the Bristol District of the Methodist Church this week. Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District (part of the local interfaith group, see picture) will be working with the local mosque to create a faith exploration day for local schools.

Bafta report blames homogenised culture and 'class ceiling' for lack of diversity
Minority film-makers need to work twice as hard as their straight, white, male counterparts, a new study commissioned by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has found.  In September 2016, Riz Ahmed contributed a long read on The Guardian, discussing difficulties he faced being typecast as a terrorist at airports.

Prince Charles says people must reach out across the 'boundaries of faith' as row rages over Donald Trump state visit
“It seems to me that, in reaching beyond your own community, you set an example for us all of true compassion and true friendship,” Charles said. “I have always thought that our own particular Faith is something that empowers and liberates us, not something that constrains us. “That is why, in my own life, I have always tried to reach across the boundaries of faith and community; to extend a helping hand wherever one might be needed."

The Muslim Council of Britain’s Secretary General Harun Khan said that he was moved by all those came out to show solidarity with Muslims. “As the world recoils at President Trump’s so-called ‘Muslim Ban’ and the mass killing at a mosque in Canada, [Visit My Mosque day] is a much-needed antidote to the poisonous atmosphere we find ourselves in,” Khan told The Guardian. “The British public, Muslim and non-Muslim, have an opportunity to come together and renew bonds of friendship.”

Is it easier to get a job if you're Adam or Mohamed?

A job seeker with an English-sounding name was offered three times the number of interviews than an applicant with a Muslim name, a BBC test found. Although the results were based on a small sample size, they tally with the findings of previous academic studies.

These have found British Muslims are less proportionately represented in managerial and professional occupations than any other religious group.

Written and illustrated by Daniel Thomas Dyer,  with calligraphy by Azim Rehmatdin. Published by Chickpea Press.

In troubled and turbulent times, this beautiful book seems like a gift to the world – a gift that is badly needed. It will be of immense value to Muslim families who seek to introduce their children to the guiding principles
of their faith, but perhaps of even greater value to people who are not Muslims but who seek to understand a faith that in the present day has been tragically misused and misunderstood. The publishers say “We hope this humble offering may be of service on the path to greater understanding and love”. I feel sure that it will be.
