Science, technology and maths for the real world

On Friday 21st October Year 8 met expert engineers from Watson-Marlow, a local company who are world leaders in pump technology for all kinds of manufacturing processes.
For more on how our students learned how to apply science, technology and maths skills to real-life situations, working with industry professionals, see below.

How to keep literacy in their sights?

Our cunning plan is to put in on their ipads of course!

All students now have a new icon on their ipads - it's called Literacy Ladders and is designed to let your child identify the progress of their literacy skills.

The icon looks like this:

All students in years 8-10 have a literacy target - these are in sticker form on their English books.  We are also sending Literay Postcards home for great literacy progress.   Years 7-10 have an Extended Writing Review this half term. They bring exercise books for all their subjects to their English lesson and look at their literacy skills. With their teacher they decide a new literacy target for the next half term.

And for fun...Mrs Ribenfors is running 'Lyrical Literacy' on Tuesday lunchtimes in E3-  playing around with song lyrics, rap and poetry. All students are welcome!

Uniform reminder from Mrs Shouten, Deputy Headteacher:

Whatever they tell you, from this week ALL trousers must be full length, NOT ¾ length and NOT turned up!

Please also note that shorts are only allowed in the Summer Term.
Thank you for your support

BLIND DATE comes to Penryn College!

Our  Charity Prefects and English Leaders will be running a stall at future Parents’ Evenings to raise money for the school charity, Stanley's Friends.

Books will be beautifully wrapped and adorned with a label clue to the genre/content. You can choose from two categories of books - those suitable for students and those suitable for adults.

All books £1 only!

CAN YOU HELP? We need donations of good quality fiction books that our team can wrap, label and offer for an intriguing blind book date.

Book donations to Miss Jaques in the Maths department - many thanks!

It's not just a badge! Why our prefects are so important to our college

Each school year we appoint an new prefect team - it's a big deal for us and them, and individual roles are awarded after intense competition and preparation. We thought we'd take time to introduce the new team to you, explain what our prefects do and why they are essential to college life.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Collecting your children from school

We have received complaints recently from local residents about parents’ cars queuing on the main road waiting to get onto school grounds and collect children when school finishes.  There have been two instances of near very nasty accidents and the police have become involved.
As a result, we request that parents do not stop on the main Kernick Road waiting to access school grounds but wait in a safe area off the main road until school finishes.  The police have stated that they intend to patrol the road and will issue warnings to people who are stationary on the main road without good reason.
We are looking at how we can help alleviate the congestion within our grounds, but can do little to stop people blocking the main roads.
Remembrance Day at Penryn College:
Is your child a member of a uniformed group like Guides/Scouts/Cadets? On Friday 11th November the whole school will have a minute’s silence and the History leaders and members of uniformed groups will make a guard of honour down the main street. Every year these students are invited to wear their uniforms to school to participate in our Remembrance ceremony - it would be great if you could encourage your child to be part of this moving ceremony.

You are warmly invited! Tuesday 8th November Year 9 Careers Fair
