This Sandwich Sunday (third Sunday of each month) was amazing, you guys. Thanks to all of you we have a beautiful collection of food donations ready to be made into future sack lunches for the Volunteers of America teen homeless shelter On October 16th. Our kids asked if they could pack lunches every week, and teachers said it was an important teaching opportunity. I heard from a few parents that making cookies at home or buying food to donate turned into important conversations about privilege and social justice. My heart is so full right now I could burst. But I won't.  There's so much more to be done!

The best part is that we sold our leftover cookies during coffee hour and made enough money (combined with our food donations) to pay for next month's lunches. People throughout the church and across committees were so helpful! Hospitality and Coffee were extremely flexible and helpful with the cookies, and many people paid way too much for them because it was all going towards a good cause.  I won't even attempt a thank you list here, because there were too many people who gave money, food, or jumped in to help pack lunches. I will, however, say a HUGE THANK YOU to our teachers for keeping the whole morning on track!

Now, on to a bit of business.  Many of you have registered your children for RE already, but some still have not! Prizes will be awarded to the first class to have all students registered :)

The Details...

An Evening with Soul

Calling all upper grade youth and families (6th-12th grades)! This great event on 9/30 - a night of story, music and great food...a fundraiser to help get youth and chaperones to the Gulf Coast for their service trip this summer - needs you! We know you're not going on the trip if you're under 10th grade. But hey, this $ goes into a service trip fund that is passed down year to year. Last year's youth inherited funds from years previous, used some, replenished and left a healthy amount as seed money for the next year. So we'd especially invite families whose youth will be preparing to go to Boston next year or going into the high school group in 2017 to volunteer and get the feel for these events and the community around them. Come be a part of the fun and the work! Questions? Contact coordinator, Kim Grob Lee at!

Family Night

Acclaimed author and storied member of our community, Robert Fulghum, will join us for dinner, storytelling, and happy tears (if it's anything like the service he orchestrated last year). Be sure to RSVP when you get the email or Facebook invite soon. This is going to be an amazing (and FREE) event.  As always dinner, laughs, and childcare will be provided.

Halloween Party

Dress your children up in costumes and come on over to church on a Tuesday! We will have your classic pizza and cookies to decorate in addition to games, pumpkins, and other moderately spooky activities. We will blow giant glow in the dark bubbles and then parade the scary kids on over to Friendship Manor to sing about the Spiders in (Their) Pants, accompanied by Mr. David Owens himself.
