We’re delighted to say that the next Talking Book to be sponsored by the Chiswick Book Festival will be the latest volume of Alan Bennett’s diaries, Keeping On, Keeping On. RNIB Talking Books has been one of our three charities since the first Chiswick Book Festival in 2009. Over that time, we have raised a total of more than £47,000 for our reading charities.

The Talking Books we have sponsored include: Parade’s End by Ford Madox Ford (set partly in Chiswick), Mary Berry’s Absolute Favourites, Helen Keller’s The Story of My Life and works by Claire Tomalin, Rosamund Lupton, Andy McNab, Sandy Toksvig and Lynda La Plante. Below: Festival director Torin Douglas hands a cheque for £2,600 to RNIB area fundraising manager Krista Dixon.
The Festival is a non-profit-making community event, raising money for three reading charities and St Michael & All Angels Church, which hosts the Festival. You can find out how to make your own donation to RNIB Talking Books here. Our two other reading charities are InterAct Stroke Support, which provides actors to read to stroke patients, and Doorstep Library, which brings the magic of reading to the homes of children in some of London’s most disadvantaged areas.
Plans are well underway for this year’s Festival and we hope you have put the dates in your diary - September 14th to 18th 2017. We’d also very much like to hear your views about the Festival.

Audiences last year were larger than ever before and while this was gratifying, it caused a few headaches. We are reviewing our ticketing and scheduling systems and would very much appreciate your help by answering a few questions. As a thank you for completing the survey, we will (if you wish) enter you into a free prize draw for a pair of tickets to an event of your choice at the Chiswick Book Festival 2017. Please click here to take part. Many thanks.
