Hampton Life Saving Club Newsletter
2 November 2016
A series of creaks and groans reverberated throughout Hampton Sunday week ago, as Members Fitness recommenced. Head Coach Michael Pratt put a dozen optimistic parents through their paces, alongside the younger members of the Sport Squad. Those who were game then moved on to a beach session with Kate Walker, whilst others hid inside the Clubhouse, pretending to help set up the Sport Presentation to follow!

Life Saving Victoria has been running the Female Leadership Network (FLN) for the last three years. It is open to any female member of a lifesaving club over the age of 18 who is active within their club (eg. they hold a committee position, are a patrol captain etc or anyone who is looking to step up into a leadership role at their club). The FLN have wonderful guest speakers at their events and the next event will be held at LSV on Thursday 24th November from 6:30-8:30pm. The guest speaker is Martin Heppell from The Resilience Project. Martin will be talking about building, supporting and maintaining resilience, which is a very relevant topic for most of us with our busy lives! If you are interested in coming along to this event, or would like some more information, then please email me at .

Yvette Costello - President

Interesting Pres Fact!
Not only has our Pres been Victorian Nipper Parent of the Year, she also cuts it up as a competitor. At the 2016 Masters State Champs, Yvette took out the silver in the Individual Surf Ski, Board Rescue and Taplin Relay, as well as gold in the Ski Relay.

It was great to see people return to training over the past week and we had a fantastic turnout to the Sports & Members Fitness Season Launch.

All members of all ages are welcome to join us at any of the sport training sessions - only requirement is a sense of humour!
Sport Squad Season Membership Fee & Carnival Entry Fees
All sport membership fees are due by the end of November. The fee is only $60 for the season and gives you access to over 10 different sessions per week! The fee covers training, gear, logistics, team badge and all running costs. Payment can be made through the Store in TeamApp and the Sport Squad Fee is Item no.1.

In addition, you can pay up-front for your carnival fees for the season (at a discounted rate), or you can pay per carnival. These items are all listed in TeamApp. If you intend on paying per individual carnival, make sure you select the correct item in the TeamApp Store (e.g. Carnival Fee South Melbourne).

The basic steps are below:
Step 1– Select Comp Squad Membership Fee in TeamApp Store: Enter details for each athlete ($60 per person). This will form our team database.
Step 2 – Carnival Fees: Select a Season Pass ($150) or Pay Per Carnival (make sure you select the actual carnival/s you will be attending). You must also make sure you have RSVPd to the event in the Events section of TeamApp. Entries are completed one week prior to each carnival (except State Championships, which are a month out). If payment hasn't been made for a carnival by the time entries are due, then you won't be entered in the carnival.
Step 3 – RSVP for each Carnival: Go to the Event section of TeamApp, find each carnival you will be attending and RSVP. You must have an RSVP for the event, and have paid for the carnival, at least one week prior to the carnival.
Sunday Training – Now 2PM
The Sunday Training session for all sports age groups will commence at 2PM on Sunday afternoons from this weekend. The TeamApp Schedule will be updated to reflect this today. This will ensure you're back home, dry and ready for the upcoming week! Parents should seriously consider joining in Sunday training.
Remember to bring your running shoes, pink rashie, goggles and wetsuit to every session as we may mix it up depending on the weather.
Michael Pratt - Director of Sport

Good news! We have passed our powercraft & gear audits for the season so are ready to go. Thanks to Alex, Nick, Jasmine, Jesse, Ross, Jeff & Christian for helping me with this. If anyone is interested, I am looking for a Gear Steward (contact me at if you are interested). From a training perspective the new BM course restarts on November 6th with another large cohort of candidates.
Annual requal for BM/SRC/ART/Spinal is set for Sunday November 27th. After requal, we are running a course for new Spinal Management awards. I encourage those with a BM to take part. You can register interest with me ( and through clicking on RSVP to the event in TeamApp. Patrol teams and schedule are available from the members portal. The State Endurance Championships commence at 10am on Saturday 19 November, just around the corner at Half Moon Bay. Last year Hampton made its debut, sporting a team of ten, half of which were Masters. These State Championships don't take themselves too seriously, and we can say this based on the humour with which the crowd treated our Masters last year. One Hampton Masters competitor (the only one not holding the board properly in the photo) held up the whole carnival for 20 minutes as they waited for her to finish the 6km board. Not to be outdone, one of our other Masters convinced the referees to let her start walking the 5km run 20 minutes early, so she didn't hold up the carnival any further.

This year, Nippers from U12 and up can compete. Events are slightly longer than standard carnival events and provide a great opportunity for our runners, swimmers and boarders to get ready for the season ahead. To see the program of events, go to the documents section of TeamApp. If you are interested, please RSVP in TeamApp. Any queries can be directed to Sam or Michael.
Sam Dwyer - Masters Coordinator & Rounder-Upper-er For Special Sport Events

'Come on down' and show your general knowledge prowess (or not!). Teams will be formed on the night and so you don't need to know anyone to take part.  By the end of the night you will have met some new people, had some fun, and maybe learned a thing or two.  The bar will be open for beverages.  Please bring a plate of snacks to share.

Tickets are $10 per adult (kids are free) and you can purchase them through the HLSC Teamapp store. Please also RSVP to the event in TeamApp.

Hampton Life Saving Club is currently seeking sponsors. We have a range of packages and opportunities available. Please contact Mark Garbelotto to discuss.
Please make sure you diarise the following dates. You can obtain more information about each of these by clicking on the link to each event. Please make sure you RSVP to the events you will be attending. Regular events such as patrols and standard nippers sessions do not require a RSVP.
