Hampton Life Saving Club Newsletter
5 October 2016
Hampton Lifesaving Club welcomes its new Board Members - Yvette Costello (President), Phillip Mawkes (Secretary), Murray James (Director Junior Activities) and Donovan Smith (Director Member Services. Congratulations also to Andy Lawrence (Director Lifesaving) who was re-elected for a second term. They will join continuing Board Members Andrew Hill (Director of Finance) and Michael Pratt (Director Sport).
Sincere thanks to outgoing Board Members Paul James (President), Gary Doyle (Director Junior Activities), Sian Slade (Secretary) and Mark Garbelotto (Director Member Services).
Welcome everybody to the first Hampton Life Saving Club Newsletter for the 16/17 Summer Season. We hope you like the new style and format, which should appear in your emails every fortnight. Please make sure you always check in at the bottom of the newsletter for key dates and links to Club event details.
The next time you head down to the Club you will notice that a huge amount of work has been undertaken over the last few months, particularly to the physical Club House. Thanks to the efforts of the prior Board (led by our soon to be Commonwealth-inaugurated, past President Paul James) the Club secured a number of grants to be able to completely paint the inside and outside of the Club House. In addition, we are now able to replace the roof, as well as install solar panels. Furthermore, thanks to the estate of the late Mr Bob Leviston, the Patrol team now has a brand new 3 seater ATV for Beach Patrols.

I’d also like to extend my thanks to all members who gave up their time to attend the Working Bee on the 18th of September. Many hands certainly made light work. As a volunteer organisation, the involvement of the membership is critical to our success. From the Board, to the various Committees, to our Patrollers, Water Safety Officers, Officials and to individuals just chipping in as needed, I urge you to become actively engaged in the club.

To that end, we have a call out to any member with an Interior Design bent, who would like to help with the layout of the Club's memorabilia. We are also looking for help from a Member who has experience in HR/ OHS/ Management to be the Club's Grievance Officer. For more information on the roles, email Don Smith.
That’s enough from me for now. If you are not already on HLSC TeamApp, please read the following instructions to sign up (TeamApp Instructions). TeamApp will give you all the up-to-date, detailed information relating to events, news and regular  activities happening around YOUR Club.  Stay safe and see you on the beach!
 Yvette Costello - HLSC President
There is an opportunity for HLSC Members to attend a blended delivery Assessors Course, commencing on October 18. For more information, please see it in TeamApp News. Any further queries should be directed to Andy Lawrence.
Patrol Teams have now been established for the season. For all other patrollers (ESPECIALLY MASTERS needing their 16 hours by the 31st of Dec 2016 in order to compete at the Victorian Masters Championships in Feb 2017) you can join a Patrol at any time by registering at If you have any queries, please contact Andy Lawrence.
Andy Lawrence - Director of Lifesaving
Congratulations to Molly Welsh, Sophia Lyons, Kate Morrison and Savannah James who recently represented Hampton at the Lifesaving Pool State Championships, all gaining top six places. Pool lifesaving is a winter activity that focuses on swimming in a rescue context. It is a great way to very quickly improve water confidence and is very relevant to lifesaving. To find out more, please read Team Manager Greg Lyons' report in TeamApp.
Thank you to the following members who volunteered their time at the Farmers' Market in July. Hampton volunteers raised $817.78 for the Club, which will go towards purchasing new equipment for our younger members. Volunteers included Jane James, Tonia & John Morison, Owen Smith, Andrew Hill, Peter Costello, Sam Dwyer, Carol Lawrence, Maryann Hetherington, Sarah Cameron, Steve May, Helen & Carl Partridge, Lucas Welsh, Charlotte Farrugia,  Kirsty Hayden, Mark Garbelotto and Peter Gleeson. The Farmers' Market is one of the best fundraising activities the Club does, you get a complimentary egg and bacon roll and most people know every second person through the gate, so it's a great social occasion. Please consider volunteering for a two hour shift, next time we get the opportunity.
Andrew Hill - Director Finance
