Welcome to the BAYAN USA Newsletter!  We'll be sharing up to date information about the national democratic movement as it relates to our campaigns, upcoming events, analysis of current events, and activities.

Starting today, December 3rd until Dec 10th, we will be commemorating International Human Rights Week by supporting the hunger strikes of relatives, allies, and advocates of political prisoners, including a hunger strike by the political prisoners themselves to urgently call on President Duterte to release all political prisoners in the Philippines.

Join our week of action by taking an individual or group picture with the text: Free all Filipino political prisoners! Free the defenders! Upload the said photos to your Twitter and Facebook account/s and tag the following: @rodyduterte @bebotbello @peacegovph @karapatan @freeallpoliticalprisonersnow. Please use the hashtag #AmnestyNowPH #FreeAll #PoliticalPrisonersPH."  Download the Poster
As of October 31, 2016, there are still 401 political prisoners in the country. Of the 401, 130 are sickly, 33 are elderly, 33 are women, and 49 have been imprisoned for more than ten years. At least 296 of them were illegally arrested during the BS Aquino administration, while 15 were arrested during the Duterte administration.  Let us work together to demand the release of all political prisoners, including those who should be released on humanitarian grounds.
Together with their families, loved ones and communities, we call on President Rodrigo R. Duterte to expeditiously effect the release of all political prisoners in Philippines. (SIGN THE PETITION)
Often sensationalized as a either a madman or a savior by the Western media, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is far from black and white. BAYAN-USA examines the complexities of President Duterte’s actions during his first 100 days in office to offer an analysis of the positives and negatives of his administration beyond the sound bytes, as well as how US geopolitical interests in the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region dictate the mainstream media narrative.

BAYAN USA stands in solidarity with the Sioux and Lakota indigenous peoples and activists at Standing Rock courageously protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline and defending their ancestral rights to the land of North Dakota. We condemn the violent attempts of paramilitary agents to disperse and disrupt the protests, using armored vehicles, rubber bullets, threatening automatic weapons, and beating and arresting organizers. From the Moro and indigenous peoples of Philippines to the Sioux and Lakota in North Dakota, we denounce the state repression of their resistance and stand with the protectors of land, water, and human dignity all over the world.
