Dear Friends,

Sometimes all it takes is a little motivation to finish up a sculpture I've had on the drawing board for some time. Having a client that wants #1/40 of my Teddy Roosevelt "GREAT CONTRIBUTORS" life-size bronze bench is good enough for me! After completing Teddy, I'll only have one more figure of Mount Rushmore to complete - Thomas Jefferson. Do any of my clients want #1/40 of him? It's been a great month in the studio! As always - fun to share projects & insights with you!

Love, World Peace and Friendship!

DONATION OF “INTERLUDE” TO NAPLES BOTANICAL GARDEN

We are absolutely DELIGHTED to have recently found out that “Interlude” (61” tall) bronze will be donated and permanently installed at the breath-taking Naples Botanical Garden in Naples, Florida! NBG features themed gardens that represent the tropics and boasts over 220,000 visitors per year! Please enjoy this story from our cherished client and long-time friend Darlene:

Donating “Interlude" to the Naples Botanical  Garden in Naples, Florida is a pleasure for me and my family. We have always believed in giving back and paying it forward.

My late husband, Henry A. Johnson, a World War 2  B17 pilot, and I found Gary Price’s sculpture at a gallery in Jackson Hole, WY while staying at a Dude Ranch  there  with our family in 1986.  We were building a home on a river in Florida at the time and knew it belonged there.  It was always our custom to acquire a piece of art where ever we were traveling and this sculpture had a great calling to us.

We have enjoyed “Interlude” for twenty years and as I am now moving to a retirement situation in Naples  am delighted that it will now be enjoyed by thousands of visitors to the beautiful Naples Botanical Garden in Naples, Florida.  We feel that Gary Price’s work is a masterpiece.

I look forward to meeting Gary and his son, Isaiah when they visit the installation at the garden.

Sincerely,

Darlene Johnson

HOW IT'S MADE - THE LOST WAX CASTING PROCESS
We are VERY excited this year to do a "How It's Made" series on the Lost Wax method of casting. We will break up the process in pieces with each newsletter so you get to see the next step and how we do it here at Gary Lee Price Studios/Alchemy Arts!

A little history...

Lost-wax casting (also called "investment casting", "precision casting", or cire perdue in French) is the process by which a duplicate metal sculpture (often silver, gold, brass or bronze) is cast from an original sculpture. The oldest known examples of this technique are the objects discovered in the Cave of the Treasure (Nahal Mishmar) hoard in southern Israel, and which belong to the Chalcolithic period (4500–3500 BC). Conservative estimates (based upon carbon dating) place the items about 3700 BC, making them more than 5700 years old. Though the process today varies from foundry to foundry, the steps used in casting small bronze sculptures are fairly standardized and largely the same process (in modern industrial use, the process is called investment casting). Lost-wax casting was widespread in Europe until the 18th century, when a piece-moulding process came to predominate.

INTERACTIVE MAP

Our new map tool is coming along nicely!! Thank you to all of you who have contributed and sent photo's of your personal and/or publicly installed pieces! We have enjoyed seeing these photos and getting them added to the website as a "map location."

For those of you who are unfamiliar, click on the map to visit this interactive map - It's SUPER COOL! You can search the globe by country, city, area code, or even a drop down list of statue titles and see where they pop up! Is your piece on there? If it's not or if any info is incomplete or incorrect, call or email us and we will get you added! As a thank you, we will send you 2 "Synergy" lapel-pins (sculpted by Gary) - one for you and one for a friend!

Thank you!!!
